OBJECTIVE: To describe how the SAMR model has been implemented at its various levels and in different educational settings, and to identify the main challenges faced by teachers and institutions in its application. METHOD: A narrative literature review was conducted based on thirteen selected studies that contribute to understanding the implementation of the SAMR model and the challenges involved in its use across educational contexts. The review included recent research from different educational levels, focusing on both teaching practices and institutional experiences. RESULTS: The findings show that at the initial levels of the model, technology is mainly used to support traditional tasks such as delivering content or facilitating communication. As the implementation progresses to more transformative levels, significant changes are observed in teaching and learning approaches, with redesigned activities that promote creativity, critical thinking, and student autonomy. From the students' perspective, a shift toward a more active and participatory role in the learning process becomes evident.
