Objective: To analyze the graduation efficiency index of graduates from the faculties and non-faculty schools of the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala during the period 2018-2021, in order to generate educational quality indicators useful for decision-makers at the institution. Method: The research employed a quantitative analysis of the official database from the Departamento de Registro y Estadística at the Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala. This database included both the enrollment of students who graduated between 2018 and 2021 and those who were enrolled in a prior cohort. The Proxy Indicator formula was applied for calculation. Results: In 2019, the overall graduation efficiency index reached an average of 58%, which declined to 28% in 2020. In 2021, there was a gradual recovery to 43%. The COVID-19 pandemic significantly impacted the graduation efficiency index, with a notable decrease in graduation rates in 2020. Some academic units particularly affected included the Facultad de Agronomía (7%), Facultad de Ciencias Jurídicas y Sociales (10%), and the Escuela de Ciencia Política (6%). Conclusion: The technical area showed the highest index in 2019 (0.60). In the health area, the indices remained more stable, reaching their peak in 2021 (0.55), and the social and humanities area achieved a high performance in 2019 (0.59). Continuous monitoring of the graduation efficiency index is key to implementing improvement strategies for educational quality.
