Healthy lifestyle practice in schoolchildren from public schools in the department of Guatemala

OBJETIVE: identify the healthy lifestyles practiced by primary school children in public school in the department of Guatemala. METHOD: quantitative, descriptive, cross-sectional study, sample of 206 children in 5th grade, and 6th. primary year, a school in the municipality of Villa Nueva and one located in the municipality of Villa Nueva and one located in the municipality of Mixco. RESULTS: in the children´s responses, they indicate that they eat at least three meals, consume high-fat foods, drink soda once a day, consume few vegetables and fruits, and are exposed to television and computers for more than 3 hours a day, they perform little physical activity. Due to the pandemic, recreation time was limited, which did not allow them to share with other children and play outside their home outside their home. CONCLUSION: the children participating in the study regarding lifestyle practices, nutrition, and physical activity have access to 3 and 5 meal times. Regarding physical activity, a large group of children indicates that they do not exercise in both schools, some walk. In relation to hours of rest and sleep, it is a protective factor because the majority report sleeping more than 8 hours day.
