Application of the graduate tracking program in the Academic Units of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala

OBJECTIVE: Identify the academic units that have a system or program for monitoring graduates of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala, which is one of the components of the USAC Educational Quality Policy, at the same time identifying the characteristics and information generated by the graduate monitoring system or program. METHOD: Exploratory study with a mixed approach, collecting data from 45 academic units through a survey. RESULTS: 20% comprising 9 academic units have a system or program for tracking graduates, while 76% represented in 34 academic units do not have a system or program, it is important to mention that 2 academic units represent 4% They did not express interest in the topic and in answering the survey. 95% of academic units consider the creation of an observatory to monitor graduates important and necessary. CONCLUSION: Progress is reflected in the implementation of the graduate monitoring system of the University of San Carlos of Guatemala, however, it is necessary to develop strategies to promote the creation of these systems or programs, support their implementation and evaluation of the results to verify compliance with the Educational Quality Policy. The creation of the observatory is important, which should include a model for monitoring graduates according to the context of the academic unit, implementing areas of improvement and the socialization of good practices.
