OBJECTIVE: To determine the level of use of Generative Artificial Intelligence (GAI) Chatbots in the learning activities of university students. METHOD: This scientific article is based on a post-positivist paradigm, with a non-experimental, ex post facto design, a quantitative approach, a correlational scope, and a cross-sectional temporal profile. The sample consisted of 260 university students. RESULTS: Regarding the level of use of Generative AI Chatbots for the most frequently performed learning activities by students, it was identified that the creation or preparation of presentations for in-class expositions is the most recurrent activity (68.4%), although it is most frequent in the Environmental Science program (31%). Meanwhile, the most frequent activity across all three programs, at 66.7%, is AI Text Humanizer. CONCLUSION: According to the results of the analysis of variance, no significant differences between the groups in the overall use of Generative AI Chatbots. However, the Meta AI tool showed a significant difference between the Pedagogy and Psychology programs, with the former program making greater use of this tool. This is potentially due to its integration into social media platforms like WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram. Additionally, there are no established policies regulating the use of these digital tools in higher education in Guatemala.
